Imagine sitting in a hospital waiting room, your child a frequent visitor to Barcelona's Sant Joan de Déu children's hospital. Amidst the familiar surroundings, one day, while waiting for an X-ray test, you find yourself idly downloading the hospital's app. At first, it's just another addition to your phone, unnoticed and unappreciated.

A Shift in Perspective

Several months later, I found myself delving deeper into the world of user experience (UX) and user interface (UI). I was enrolled in a UX/UI course, gaining experience as an intern at a startup, and my perspective was evolving. As I prepared to present my final term project, something unexpected happened. When I opened my phone, my attention was drawn to an app - the same hospital app I had downloaded months ago.

A Fresh Look at Familiar Ground

With my growing knowledge and transformed outlook, that app was no longer just another digital entity. It became an opportunity for a complete redesign. My mission was clear: to reimagine its interface, enhance its usability, and give it a fresh visual identity. I saw this journey as a chance to breathe new life into an app that had faded into the background of countless smartphones.

The Redesign Odyssey

As I delved deeper into the app's functionality, I uncovered numerous usability challenges and navigation issues. One glaring problem was the lack of a clear home screen and the difficulty of locating the app when it moved to the background. Drawing insights from heuristic evaluations, I set out to create a more user-friendly and visually appealing interface.

Redefining User Interactions

My redesign efforts included introducing a rainbow or circular menu format for the hamburger menu, ensuring easy access for users with varying hand mobility. I also created visually distinct cards and icons, transforming the app's specialty areas into intuitive zones. Additionally, I added features for appointment cancellation and modification, enriching the app's capabilities.

A New Direction for the App

The culmination of my efforts resulted in an evolved app interface that seamlessly combined accessibility, aesthetics, and functionality. With my prototype ready for exploration, I invite users to engage and share their valuable opinions. My journey into the captivating realm of UX/UI design is an ongoing narrative of discovery and advancement.
